Buy Sod’s turfgrass varieties, including those that are available at your local John Deere Landscapes store, are priced per square foot (sq. ft.). So, before you order or purchase your sod, you must first calculate how many square feet of sod you will need for your site.
To begin your calculations, sketch your site onto a piece of paper, and mark off areas into geographical shapes. Then, with a tape measure or wheel, measure the dimensions (length, width, diameter, etc.) of each shape, and record those on your sketch. Next, click on each shape below to see the formula needed to calculate the square footage of that shape. Finally, add up the square feet needed for each shape to determine the total amount of sod needed for your site.
